Welcome to SCRAP DC!

What is SCRAP? First and foremost, we are now a retail STORE!

Name another place in DC where you can buy fabric at $1.50/yard. Just try to beat artist-quality paint brushes starting at 10¢. But does the mere thought of "getting crafty" make you break out in hives? We've got stuff for you, too! A full roll of gift wrap is just 50¢, for instance, and we've also got containers, some toys and games, even office supplies. Pay by cash, check or charge.

Where:  52 O Street NW #L2

When: Thursdays 11-8 -- that's right. We've extended our Thurs. hours!

First Fridays each month 5-9pm (next up: 6/1)

and now announcing Third Saturdays!, 10-1 -- next is 6/16

PLUS -- join us 6/3 for our progressive dinner fundraiser

More to come! For other openings, we'll let you know on Twitter and Facebook

Most of our energies are now focused on the store, but we want to continue developing our other programs, too, which include craft fairs, informational talks, birthday and other parties, art shows, workshops, and more.
Each of the above takes volunteers! Want to join us? We're holding more volunteer orientation sessions for those interested. If you'd like to work in the store or at one of our off-site events, prepare to join us by filling out our complete online form and we'll get back to you.

Directions & map -- Use Metro's red line to get to the New York Ave stop and walk west and north to 52 O. Take the steps going down from the sidewalk and ring our doorbell to alert us that you've arrived. Shop, plan a SCRAPpy project, and see examples of creative reuse. If you'll provide some notice before bringing kids over, we'll make sure it's safe for those 6 and up. However, we recommend leaving younger kids at home.

Our mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to local communities. So far we've saved over 3.5 TONS of "scrap" from reaching local waste streams, but as for collecting more... Well, our space is so jam-packed right now, we're actually taking a break from accepting most of what you can usually donate. Here's a short list of stuff we still need, and of course we'd love to hear any leads you might have on where to store more.
